Speaking during the event, University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama observed that students have excelled in many areas, not just in academics, but also in extra curriculum activities like sports and hence they should be recognized. One of the prominent sportsmen in the country, the fastest man in the world, Ferdinand Omanyala is one of the students worth celebrating.

The Vice Chancellor, called upon the Dean of Students to go an extra mile and identify students doing very well in various fields worth recognition for their excellent performance.

In his endeavor to celebrate students from various fields, the Vice Chancellor , opined that students doing well in music, drama, sports among others are worth recognition during the annual prize giving day. “Let’s celebrate drama, sport, music, let’s celebrate those who excel in all other areas, in addition to academic excellence”, he said.

In his concluding remarks, Prof. Kiama noted that University was ranked top because of research that we continue to do as an institution. “UoN is a brand and we encourage all that associate with us as students to maintain the quality of the brand,” he urged. He also added that as the leadership , they are focused on making UoN sustainable and relevant.

Speaking during the event, Prof. Julius Ogeng’o, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, University of Nairobi, observed that post graduate students who perform well in the academics are worth being celebrated too. “Let us explore all other areas. Let’s include post graduate students as well”, he said.

From the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Mohammed Fatma Noor was recognized and rewarded as the best student

Anastacia Nthenya speaking on behalf of the prize donors at the prize presentation ceremony. She urged donors to continue supporting universities so that they can focus on their core mandate of  research and innovation.
