A hasthtag created by the Insititute of Athropology, Gender and African Studies (IAGAS) went viral for several hours on Twitter on the 23rd of November, 2020.
#Anthropologytoday trended concurrently with #UoNat50 during a webinar titled, “Anthropology Today: Re (Positioning the discipline of anthropology in the global discourse.”
Just before the event had even started, excitement had already taken up in the digital space. Gabriel Oguda, a Daily Nation columnist and an alumnus of the IAGAS tweeted. “Prof. Onyango Ouma taught me reseach methods and has been a guiding light. Prof. Sally Bukachi made me fall in love with Medical Anthropology. Dr Mary Nyamongo opened doors for me to practice, at a time opportunities were few and doubts were many. I’d listen to them all day.” His tweet was liked 133 times, retweeted 22 times and quoted 6 times.
Prof. Sally Bukachi aside from moderating the webinar tweeted. “Very Interesting presentations and discussions. Thank you.”

Since IAGAS stepped into the digital space, they have become a dominant force and one of the most active units online in the entire college and university.
