The African Centre for the Study of the United States is the definitive hub for African - generated knowledge of the USA. The event was held at University of Nairobi Towers 5th Floor Chandaria Auditoria.

The guest speakers invited  included, Amb.Meg Whitman, U.S Ambassador to Kenya, Hon, Gladys Boss Sholei Deputy Speaker National Assembly, Hon  Naomi Shaban vice chair of the parliamentary service commission, Deputy  Mayor of Denver city Happy Haynes ,US Embassy representative Christopper Machin, Ms Lorna Johnson President- Sister Cities International (Africa),  Deputy Governor Nairobi County, Hon James Njoroge Muchiri, among others.

In his welcoming remarks by Vice Chancellor Prof Stephen Kiama, Thanked the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Department of Diplomacy and International Studies, for conceiving and publishing  the Idea of this important research and training program. He commented that  the Centre will convine economic development of western states and other regional blocks and will give us an avenue to explore issues around applied research, science and technology. The speech was ready by Deputy Vice Chancellor  Prof Julius A. Ogeng’o Academic Affairs. On his behalf.

The Department of Diplomacy and International Study Chairman Dr Partick Maluki, commented that the department is privileged to host the (ACSUS) as it complements the existing programs. He further said as a department they study international affairs that affect inter-state relations and have impact on the welfare of humanity.

Dean of the faculty Jack Odhiambo, Faculty of arts and social sciences, “ as you are all aware, this department acts as the pioneer focal point in our University in matters international Relations and Foreign Policy and thus we thank them for their stellar performance in coordinating and showcasing the image of university at the global stage” it is our hope as faculty members that DDIS will continue to be bridge of diplomatic link between our university and the international community representatives in Nairobi.

Prof Amb Maria Nzomo noted that, the new centre, will be building on the institute’s intellectual progress, already set in motion, by the establishment of the centre for the study of international terrorism, that was created for continues research on relevant strategies, for effective response to this global security problem.

The Deputy Mayor of Denver  Happy Haynes, said that the city and the county is looking forward to working closely with centre for the study of USA. The Deputy,  expressed her joy of being in Nairobi and seeing the launch of this African Centre. She largely elaborated on the relationship between Nairobi and Denver as the sister cities since 1975. 

The launch event was witnessed by Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Sholei as she was giving her vote of thanks, she cogratulated  the University of Nairobi on the establishment of this centre. She expressed her support and success of this launch.

In his speech US Embassy -Kenya, Christoper Machin commented that the international education is the key for one to be global citizen and the university of Nairobi has been a longtime partner of the US through different campuses and departments.
